The unique characteristics of Japanese Kampo Medicine
Most of our users know that YHK is a liver therapy that is made in Japan. But if we are to be more exact, YHK is a type of Kampo medicine, but what does it exactly mean by Kampo “漢方”?
With the combination of the word “漢” (Kam) which refers to a dynasty in ancient China and “方”(Po) which refers to a way of treatment or formula, it is not difficult to guess that Kampo evolves from the basis of traditional Chinese medicine. In fact, Kampo is a traditional medical system practised in Japan ever since the introduction of Chinese medicine in the 7th century.
Using the Kampo treatment way, Dr Sha, who is the founder of Kyotsujigyo Inc. and also a professor at the University of Musashino Gakuin University, invented YHK more than 25 years ago with the aim of helping people improve their liver condition and prevent liver injury. But in what ways is YHK a type of Kampo medicine? Let’s find out below.
1. Traditional, yet well tested
In Japan, Kampo is practised by physicians who have gone through training in western medicine. After diagnosis, Kampo treatments are given to patients. Thanks to its high quality of the ingredients and the repeat tests performed to ensure maximum safety, YHK does not cause any side effects when they are incorporated into western medications.
2. 100% plant-based ingredients
Despite being evolved from Chinese medicine, Kampo only consists of natural ingredients, and no animal parts are considered as suitable ingredients in Kampo medicine. The four plants used in YHK are Panax Pseudoginseng, Eucommia, Licorice Root, and Rhizoma Polygonati – all of which have a long history of medicinal effects. Given its plant-exclusive nature, YHK is suitable for vegetarians to use.
3. Conventional, but science-focused
Kampo is a type of formula-based medicine, meaning that the ingredients are well defined with fixed ratios. Most Kampo formulas have been heavily tested to ensure they deliver the best results. And YHK is no different in this aspect. With the unique patented formula, YHK is tested time after time to ensure its medicinal effects and safety are up to standard. Its effectiveness is documented in over 30 clinical studies in world-renowned databases such as PubMed (US National Library of Medicine) and Rejuvenation Research.
4. Approved and recognised by the Japanese government
Japan is known for its high safety standards, and especially so when it comes to drugs and medicine, and Kampo is no exception. Since 1967, Kampo has been integrated into the Japanese national health care system. Like western medications, Kampo is also strictly governed by the Japanese government. That’s why YHK is made in Japan with strict quality control, in compliance with the Japanese Pharmaceutical Affairs Law, Health Promotion Law and other related Health & Safety Regulations.
